PRODUCT RANGE IN THE WEBSHOP

We are unable to offer all 500 fish varieties from Sardineum in our webshop.
However, we have launched with 103 varieties of sardines in oil (plus a few anchovies, mussels, and cod liver). With this selection, we have — almost right from the start — become one of the largest sardine-in-oil webshops in the German-speaking market.

All other wonderful products from the Sardineum range will continue to be available exclusively in our physical store, but not online. This includes spirits, gourmet food items, tableware, gift items, tin toys, and more.

(Currently) No International Shipping

At the moment — shortly after launch — we are shipping within Austria only.
Our IT systems are already working at full speed so that we can soon offer shipping and billing to other EU countries as well.

Minimum Order & Packaging / Shipping Costs

There is no minimum order quantity, but for logistical reasons we kindly ask you to order at least 6 tins.
Ideally, orders of 8 or 16 tins are perfect, as this allows us to pack our shipping boxes most efficiently.

We charge a flat rate of €6.05 per order for packaging and shipping.
For very small orders, this amount does not fully cover our costs, as we have deliberately chosen an aesthetically high-quality inner packaging, for which we have received very positive feedback.
So please be so kind as to order 8 or 16 tins, helping us avoid losses on shipping.

Delivery Time & Shipping Partners

As a rule, we process orders the day after they are received, although we cannot guarantee this in every case.
Please understand if our shipping partner occasionally needs one or two extra days.

Damages / Complaints / Best-Before Dates

We pack our tins very carefully. Should a tin occasionally have a small dent, we kindly ask for your understanding.
If this happens with vintage sardines (where the tin itself is an important part of the product), please contact us briefly by email so we can resolve the issue.

We sell high-quality products in a wide range of flavors. Naturally, it may happen that one variety does not quite suit your personal taste — however, this is not considered a reason for complaint.

A note on best-before dates (BBD)

Sardines in oil are fully preserved products. This means that intact tins remain edible for decades. They do not spoil and may even improve with age (as is the case with vintage sardines).

However, regulations require that all food products carry a best-before date, and for sardines these periods are often set arbitrarily low — sometimes only 4 years, usually 5, and rarely longer. These dates have no relation to actual shelf life.

If you ever receive a tin from us that is technically “past” its best-before date, please feel free to disregard this.
Confusion may also arise because some producers additionally print the production date, which can be mistaken for a best-before date.

Exception: obvious spoilage

If a tin appears bulging or swollen, it is genuinely spoiled. Do not open or consume it.
That said, the likelihood of receiving such a tin from us is close to zero.

Exception: anchovies

Unlike sardines, anchovies are not always fully preserved products. Some are semi-preserved and should be kept refrigerated and consumed within the best-before date.

Of course, if you ever receive a tin from us that is past its best-before date and would like an exchange, we will gladly replace it upon request.
